Wordle about assessment online

Introduction

Many teachers would like to use more technology in their classrooms, but find learning all the new technology difficult, if not overwhelming.  They want concrete resources and tools they can use now, ideally without having to learn a whole new technology.  The focus in this class will be in helping each teacher (student) find specific resources and tools that meet their needs, and that they can turn around and use in their classrooms tomorrow. The focus will not be on Web 2.0 tools, since these can be challenging to implement, but rather on all Internet-based tools that can improve instruction.

Final outcome: These teachers can confidently search for, locate, evaluate, use, and trouble-shoot appropriate and effective Internet resources, incorporating them in effective and improved classroom instruction.

Where to go for more information

A synopsis of this class may be found under About.  The details of all class modules are described under Course Outline, and the overall Course Objectives are also described.  The students are described on the Students page.

What about assessments?  Four different tools were included in this course to aid in assessment:  surveys,  a rubric for discussions, a wiki for shared work, and blogs for personal reflection.  These are described in detail under Assessment Tools on the subpages under it:

The relationship between the assessment tools used in this class and Bloom’s taxonomy are shown on the Taxonomy page.

Since discussions are so important to the success of an online class, and these relate closely to the Rubrics used to assess the discussions, there is a separate page describing the discussions, as well as another just to describe the use of the Ning as a tool for creating the discussions.

Conclusion

This class for teachers learning how to locate, evaluate, and incorporate Internet resources in their classroom is intended to support each teacher’s individual learning journey.  The learning objectives have been tied to specific assessment activities.   Further, all the higher levels of Bloom’s taxonomy have been addressed.  By the end of the class, teachers who take the course should feel much more comfortable using Internet resources in their classrooms, should feel comfortable searching for and evaluating new resources, and should also have established the beginnings of their own learning support networks.
